Today was the official annual hooky wheeling day at GE Bently Nevada. We met for breakfast at the company cafeteria and then headed up Ebbets pass, a twisty steep mountain pass. We got to the Deer Valley trailhead and readied the vehicles. This is a trail rated at category 4, Rubicon Trail is considered a 5. The weather cooperated for the first leg over the gatekeeper but in the canyon there was thunder constantly and it rained for about 2 hours and it even hailed for short periods a few times. We lingered at the halfway lunch spot waiting for a stock jeep that was a few minutes behind us. We left quickly because of the weather and it was a fairly easy trip out after the hill we climbed to get in. We finished up near a big pool of water from the river playing catch with a golden retriever that tagged along on the trail. A pretty good day for a workday, it’s good to work alongside other professionals who understand the importance of an off road day. I can’t wait till the annual winter hooky ski day.

My tackle this week was to challenge my brain to learn, learn, learn. All about blogging that is, and all about memes. Of course that was far too lofty a goal, but I've begun to understand some terminology and have actually participated in my first meme! This one, yay! This meme was recommended by my dear sister-in-law, Audrey. She's the one who's teaching me about this stuff and she said Tackle it Tuesday is a great way to get started with a great group of like-minded women. So, my task continues, doubtlessly for a long time, but I tackled getting started this week! Visit http://www.5minutesformom.com/160/tackle-it-tuesday-update/ for more Tackle it Tuesday posts. |

Gregg and I have been on a quest all summer long to find an isolated (not crowded) lake in which to cool off during the dog days of summer. We live not more than fifteen minutes from Lake Tahoe, unquestionably one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. And yet, with our work schedules, we're rarely free to go enjoy its cool clear waters during the week. And on the weekends, especially during the summer months, the crowds are overwhelming. Thus, our search began this summer for the perfect mountain retreat. We've gradually moved our search farther and farther away from civilization. Each lake has been slightly less crowded than the one before, but none have satisfied all our requirements for the perfect one... |

A poem from what Gregg calls one of the "most important books in our history."
The Meaning of Success
To earn the respect of intelligent people and to win the affection of children;
To appreciate the beauty in nature and all that surrounds us;
To seek out and nurture the best in others;
To give the gift of yourself to others without the slightest thought of return, for it is in giving that we receive;
To have accomplished a task, whether it be saving a lost soul, healing a sick child, writing a book, or risking your life for a friend;
To have celebrated and laughed with great joy and enthusiasm and sung with exhaltation;
To have hope even in times of despair, for as long as you have hope you have life;
To love and be loved;
To be understood and to understand;
To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
This is the meaning of success.

A Different Perspective Rhonda has written many articles with information about herself, her education and career, her experiences, and her marriage. I would like to write a little about her from a different perspective. If you read my article My Sister, My Friend, then you will know Rhonda and I are very close. However, I think I am old enough and wise enough to be able to make some un-skewed observations on her character and abilities. Rhonda is one of the smartest people I have ever known. Yes, academically she is well educated, but that is not really what I am referring to. She is able to adapt so quickly to a situation. This I think is most important when it comes to being a parent. I have seen her in action with little ones. When my children were toddlers she was such a comfort to have nearby. |
