thursday thunks

To play along, click on this link.

1. Your thoughts on truck drivers?

My dad drove a truck, and my brother, and my brother-in-law. I think it's a difficult job, and with fuel costs, it's not the most efficient way of transporting merchandise. I used to think truck drivers were the best and most courteous drivers on the road. I believe that is still true of most of them.

2. Did you hear
Michelle Duggar is pregnant for the 15th time? (but that will be kid #19 if you lost count....)

Ironic, isn't it? How some women are born so incredibly fertile. What I would wonder is, does she really feel that she has enough of EVERYTHING to go around, and then enough left over for one more baby. I mean, even if you can handle it financially, how do you give everyone of your children all the attention they need when you have so many?

3. Have you ever done something to hurt someone intentionally... just for the sole purpose of hurting them because you thought they deserved it? Maybe a paybacks a bitch sort of thing?

Life has taught me that anger and resentment are bitter and destructive things. They don't help anyone heal, they just cause more sadness.

4. Is there anyone in your life that when you go to their place of residence, you just walk in without bother knocking? Does anyone just walk into your house without knocking?

At my mom's house, of course, and my mother-in-law's house, I walk in without knocking. But nobody does that at my house. It's kind of a kid thing, so I suppose when Gregg and I have our own child, he/she will do that. I certainly hope so anyway.

5. Whats in the trunk of your car? Do you even have a clue?

I know exactly what is in the trunk of my little car. That's because I'm so proud of our new little Miata, that I try really hard to keep it nice and clean. Right now, there are five books in the trunk that I've been intending to drop off at the thrift store, since we've both read them and they were just taking up room on the small bookshelf in the den. The one I finally cleaned last weekend!

6. When you go to a family holiday get together (such as Christmas or Thanksgiving), about how many people are there?

It depends on the side of the family, but usually at least 8, and sometimes as many as 40. I love big families, doesn't everyone?

7. What is in your kitchen sink right at this very moment?

Absolutely nothing, I just can't stand to leave dishes in the sink, it makes it not fun to come home after work.

8. You go to a store to buy an expensive item... say $150. You pick up that item and a couple other this n' thats. You get to the register and the expensive item rings up at $40. The cashier doesn't seem to notice and tells you your total. Do you go with what they say and pay it or do you question the price difference? You know you would question it if your $40 item rang up at $150....

Honestly, I probably wouldn't say a thing. Not proud to say that, but I work a lot harder for my money than Wal-Mart does.

9. Do you fold your underwear or do you just toss it in a drawer?

It's always folded neatly, and thanks to the cool drawer dividers I got from Ikea, it always stays that way.

10. There is a Harley-Davidson giveaway. Chances are $100 and they are only selling 250 tickets. Do you buy one?

My hubby might, but I don't ride on the street, only on the dirt.

11. Who is your favorite Disney character?

Thumper from Bambi. That was the first book I read by the way. I must have been six or so and that book made me cry like crazy, but I loved it.

12. It's September - most of the weekly sitcoms/dramas are starting new seasons again. Which one are you most looking forward to?

I can't wait for Lost to come back. That's a great show, even if it's pretty unbelievable most of the time. This will be the final season, so I'm sure we'll finally get some resolution.

13. You are at a grocery store and are on your way out to your car with your cart full of grocery bags. On your way to your car you see a black kitten in an empty cart. What do you do?

I'm allergic to cats, so I wouldn't go pick it up. Instead, I'd make the store manager aware and make sure he/she was going to do something about it.

14. Is there anything that you do for a hobby that you are asked to do for friends/family that most people would hire a professional to do? (example: cake decorating, fixing cars....)

Wow, come to think of it, I don't really have anything like that. Most of the others in my family do though. My sister does internet stuff, including web design. My brother is the ultimate handy man. If you need it fixed, he's the guy. I call him all the time to ask how to do this or that. My mom makes the most wonderful quilts you would ever want. She could sell them for lots of money, but she only makes them for the family. My aunt decorates beautiful cakes. I suppose the only thing I do really well, that people would pay for is kids. I can do almost anything with a kid, from cheering up a cranky one, to helping a shy one make friends.

15. Are we there yet?

Well, that's just a matter of perspective. I mean, we're always somewhere, so it depends where you're wanting to be that determines if you're there or not.

Are you usually late, early or right on time?

Well, I guess it's really a matter of semantics, because in my book, if I'm not there at least ten minutes before my appointed time, I feel like  I'm late.

What would be harder for you, to tell someone you love them or to tell them that you do not love them back?

Seems like an easy question. Telling people I love them is very easy for me, so I'd have to say it would be harder to tell someone that I didn't love them back. I mean, that'd be a hurtful thing to hear.

Which would you rather have: a high salary or job satisfaction?

This is another easy one. My husband and I strongly agree on this one. A person spends such a large part of their life at work, it is essential that the experience be satisfying. Fortunately for us, we're able to make a good salary doing what we both love so that helps alot in making that decision.

baby book

wordful wednesdaysI am, as always, feeling quite wordful about our hopes to adopt an infant. Our families are so very supportive and excited at the prospect of adding another little one to the brood of grandchildren. Above is a picture of the first gift bought for this as yet unknown little person. My mom and my brother knew that Beatrix Potter is the theme we've chosen for the nursery, so they set about choosing just the right baby book to record all the joys of the baby's first year. I received this in the mail only a few weeks before we received our letter stating that our homestudy was approved. This letter was of course the first thing to go in the book. It rests on the dresser in what will be the nursery and awaits more entries. Waiting is such a painful and yet pleasant process. Each morning I awake with the hope that today might be the day I hear from our adoption specialist and while this can sometimes lead me to feeling deflated when no call comes, the hoping makes each day bearable.

Give Me Five back to school memories.

1. Wondering who will be in my class this year.

2. Buying new school shoes.

3. Meeting my teacher, every teacher seemed perfect at first, unfortunately not all of them lived up to my expectations.

4. Watching The Wonderful World of Disney and Bonanza on the Sunday before school starts as that awful feeling in your stomach begins to grow.

5. The smell of the freshly cut school lawn.
